Career Exploration – Communications Major

While looking through the Bureau of Labor Statistics, I noticed that there were more job opportunities than I originally thought for a communications major. I think the one that stood out the most was that people with communications degrees can go into early childhood education, which is something I did not know before. When people used to ask me the question of what I plan to do with my communications degree, I usually give them an answer of how I want to go into some sort of marketing and public relations field but while looking at chart 2, I realized I also would be interested in being a Administrative Services and Facilities Manager. They plan, direct, and coordinate activities that help an organization run efficiently. When I was a captain of softball and field hockey in high school one of my favorite things to do was plan team bonding events so that the team chemistry would grow stronger and help us perform better on a team. Administrative Services and Facilities Managers practically do the same thing by organizing events that would help the organization run smoothly. One thing that interested me in this field was how it had a 6% job outlook (The projected percent change in employment from 2023 to 2033.)  which was faster than the average which is 4 percent. Another thing I found interesting was the fact that more people with a communications degree went into management occupations instead of Sales occupations. Most of the time I feel like I was told that people usually go into sales really early on after they get their communications degree, but actually only about 11% of people do while about 22% of people go into the management field. I believe that this website is a really good source for people looking into what they want to do for a job in the future.
