I thought this workshop was really helpful and will help me grow into a better journalist. I got some important feedback for my feature creature and some compliments on what I did well. I took notes in class on what feedback I was given so I can improve my story for my final draft:
- Good quotes!
- Good job getting different opinions
- Subheadline is more of a nutgraf (move to 3rd or 4th paragraph)
- Subheadline should stay around 10 words
- Repetition is in lead and the subheadline
- “Is there a solution?”
- Last paragraph should did into the idea of being a solution
- End with a statement and not a question
- See if there is some member of administration that could give a reason on why this is a thing
- This could give more background information
- Elaborate on what flex dollars are
- Talk about winward (24/7 convenience story)
- It was biased (fix wording on certain sections highlighted)
- Talk about student workers as well and how sometimes their shifts run really long
