One important quote from the chapter that interested me was “The greatest good is to live in accordance with nature, and to achieve pleasure without fear.” This quote in particular interested me because I think that the quote influences the belief of how important human values are and how it encourages individuals to seek knowledge and understanding about the natural world. Another thing that was interesting to me was the quote “The universe is infinite, and it is full of chance and change.” I personally like this quote because it puts emphasis on the principles of Epicureanism. This is because it argues that understanding the natural world through observation and reason leads to a more fulfilling life, free from fear and superstition.
One text to self connection between the book and I is Lucretius’s emphasis on seeking knowledge. I personally have always been driven by curiosity and I am always willing to try new things. I feel like most people should live their life in the way that they should always be willing to learn/try new things in life based on curiosity. I feel like the people who never try to experience new things don’t go out of their way to seek any sort of knowledge because they only stay with what they’re comfortable with.
One question I have about this chapter is what impact did Lucretius’s ideas have on the thinkers of people today?
