SU community reflects on 3-year anniversary of Russia-Ukraine conflict

This article by Shivika Gupta, an assistant writer for the Daily Orange, explains how Syracuse University’s community reflects on what happened 3 years ago with Russia and Ukraine. Gupta interviewed a graduate student at SU, Kateryna Kolesova, who was forced to leave her home when the war broke out. Kolesova left everything behind to flee to the United States and she explains her struggles she still faces even three years later and what helps her through it. “‘It feels like there’s this cloud over you, even when you’re happy. It’s like, How dare I be happy when there are all these things going on? Kolesova said. ‘But you kind of stop yourself and try to be grateful that you’re safe and alive’”. Kolesova explains how she still feels the guilt even three years later of leaving everything behind. She even later explains how even when she’s not thinking, she’s thinking about it and it’s almost impossible to stop. “…she said being part of the Ukrainian Student Association has helped her build a community that can relate to her and eased her navigation of a tumultuous three years”. SU has student run clubs like the Ukrainian Student Association that help students like Kolesova who feel the major guilt that she does, and the meetings give people a sense of belonging and like they are not alone with their feelings.

Observations from SU’s win over BC: Woolley’s facilitating, Eagles shut down

Nicholas Alumkal, the assistant sports editor of the Daily Orange, writes about the Syracuse University’s Women’s Basketball team win over Boston College. This being the last game of the regular season before playoffs start, this was a huge conference win for Syracuse and they won 82-57. Another reason why this was such a huge win was because when SU traveled to BC in January, they had their worst loss of the season to them, so this game was a chance to redeem themselves. One key factor in Syracus’ big win was that BC’s leading scorer, T’yana Todd, who is averaging 14.3 points per game, was not able to attend the game which weakened their offence tremendously. “Boston College’s 21 turnovers and SU’s 27 points off those giveaways played a key role in SU’s runaway win.” This was another huge factor in SU’s big win.
